Supply Only or Supplied and Installed? How to Choose
Every size we grow is available two ways: supply only, or supplied and installed. There is no wrong answer, but there is a right answer for your site, your back and your weekend. Here is how to choose honestly.
What the install price includes
People assume install means digging holes. On a real job it means:
- Marking out spacing and string-lining the run so the hedge is arrow straight
- Digging through whatever your yard hides: clay, roots, the builder's buried concrete offcuts
- Soil preparation and planting at correct depth, which is where most DIY hedges go wrong
- Mulching the full run and cleaning up every scrap
- A walkthrough of your 12-week establishment plan before we leave
What DIY really involves
Per plant, budget 20 to 40 minutes of honest digging in typical SEQ soil, more in clay. A 25L Starter root ball weighs around 15kg and moves easily. A 100L Ultimate root ball is 70kg-plus and genuinely needs two strong people and a trolley. This is the single biggest thing to be realistic about: Starter size is a very achievable weekend project, Ultimate size usually is not.
Choose supply only if
- You are planting Starter size and you own a decent shovel
- Access to the fence line is straightforward
- You enjoy this stuff, in which case you will do a great job with our spacing guide
Choose installed if
- You are buying Premium or Ultimate stock: the weight alone justifies it
- The site has slopes, tight access or suspect soil
- You want the straightness, spacing and soil prep guaranteed by people who plant hedges every single day
You can change your mind
Ordered supply only and had second thoughts at the sight of the root balls? Reply to your order confirmation and we will quote the install. It happens more than you would think, usually around plant number three.
