Preparing Your Fence Line for Hedge Installation Day
Our crew handles the hard parts of install day, but a few minutes of preparation from you makes the job faster and occasionally cheaper. Here is the checklist we send with every booking confirmation.
Before we arrive
1. Clear the run
Move pots, furniture, trampolines and anything else along the fence line. What looks like a small detour becomes forty detours when the crew is carrying seventy root balls past it.
2. Think about access
Unlock side gates and measure the narrowest point if you can. Standard gates fit our trolleys; if your only access is through the house or over a fence, tell us at quote time so we bring the right gear and the right number of hands.
3. Know your services
If you know where irrigation lines, drainage or private power runs sit along the fence, flag them. Council services are marked before major digs, but the garden tap line your uncle buried in 2015 is invisible until a shovel finds it.
4. Sprinklers and taps
We need working tap access on install day for watering in. If your irrigation runs on a controller, know how to set a manual cycle for the establishment period.
5. Dogs and kids
We love both, but open gates plus excited dogs is a bad combination. Plan for pets to be inside or contained while gates are open.
Decisions worth making early
- Exact start and end points: to the gate post or past it? Decide before string lines go up.
- Fence offset: we default to at least 50cm off the fence for healthy two-sided growth. If you want the hedge tighter or wider, say so on the day.
- Mulch preference: we bring our standard, but if you want it to match existing beds, have yours on site.
